Dear Parent(s) and Guardian(s),

I’m writing to you today on behalf of the Durham Catholic Children’s Foundation (DCCF). DCCF was established to ensure that students can attend school with the basic daily necessities of life provided. We recognize the importance of nurturing the whole student in mind, body and spirit to foster well-being and positive learning outcomes.

In serving the Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB) and its communities, DCCF contributes to supporting the most vulnerable children and families in Durham Region, bringing hope and enabling them to reach their full potential. Through signature fundraising events and donor contributions, DCCF enables a formal mechanism for coordinating charitable initiatives and raising funds to support student participation in all aspects of school life.

Since 2017, DCCF has raised over $220,000 for our Direct Family Assistance program. These funds were used to purchase food, clothing, medical necessities, transportation passes, gift cards and much more. These funds went directly to students and families in need in our DCDSB school community. In addition to our Direct Assistance Program, DCCF also raised $40,000 for our Emergency Support Fund which helped aid families that were faced with significant unexpected challenges. Finally, DCCF raised roughly $26,000 for our Bursary Program that directly supported students in our school communities pursuing a post-secondary pathway. These funds have been crucial for our students and families in the DCDSB over the years, and we hope to continue being an agent of change for years to come.

Like many other charitable organizations, our fundraising capabilities were significantly impacted by COVID-19. As a result, we are trying to raise funds through various means such as private donations, corporate sponsorships, grants and fundraising. All proceeds will go to the DCCF, which will directly support students in our Catholic school communities.

I am inviting you to join us at our first ever Virtual Gala taking place on Friday, May 6 at 7:00 p.m.  via Zoom. The gala will feature entertainment by world renown magician, Michael Bourada, the Distinguished Catholic Student Alumni awards, many door prizes, and a silent auction you don’t want to miss. Tickets are $35.00 per person and can be purchased on www.durhamcatholicfoundation.ca. To learn more about the gala, please follow us on Instagram @dcchildrensfoundation and Twitter @DC_ChildrensFdn.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation and support.

Sincerely,

Tracy Barill
