Gerard Winn

As the Director of Education for the Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB), I consider it both an honour and a privilege to serve on the Durham Catholic Children’s Foundation. When I first joined Durham Catholic as a new Superintendent during the pandemic, I witnessed firsthand the extraordinary impact the Foundation had in bringing hope, dignity, and much needed support to students and families facing significant financial hardship needed support to students and families facing significant financial hardship. 

That experience left a lasting impression on me. It affirmed that our collective work is not only about education—it is about compassion, accompaniment, and ensuring that every child feels seen, supported, and able to thrive. 

I see my role as Director of Education as a natural extension of the Foundation’s mission. Each day, I am guided by the wisdom of the Gospel of Luke: “From those to whom much is given, much is expected.” This reminder grounds me in gratitude and calls me to serve with humility, generosity, and unwavering commitment to those entrusted to our care.
